Eating Issues and Disorders

At Auckland Psychology there is specialist support and counselling for those struggling with any body image or eating issue. We also provide counselling and support for family, friends and other loved ones who are concerned about someone else.

Eating difficulties can take many forms including:

  • concerns about body image
  • distress or worry about weight loss or weight gain
  • dieting
  • disordered eating behaviours and thoughts
  • fear around food
  • abuse of vitamins, supplements or other medications to manipulate weight
  • excessive exercise

Eating issues or eating disorders can affect men and women of all ages.

Specialist disordered eating counsellors

The approach of each of the counsellors is guided by Collaborative and Narrative Therapies. This means building a trusting counselling relationship where the values, experiences and resources of each individual help direct the conversation. There will be exploration of the influence an eating difficulty might have on a person’s life and a focus on identifying ways to move forward from its demands. Each conversation will be different and the counsellors all enjoy accompanying people on a journey towards a life more open to choice, possibility and hope. All counsellors at Auckland Psychology are members of NZAC and adhere to its Code of Ethics.
